Madrid EDITION achieves highest BREEAM In-Use Part 1 ever recorded in Spain for a hotel
January 23, 2026
We are proud to share that The Madrid EDITION has achieved a new milestone in sustainable luxury: BREEAM In-Use Part 1 certification at the Excellent level (80.02%), the highest score ever recorded in Spain for a hotel building.
Located in the heart of Madrid, close to the Royal Palace, Plaza Mayor and Gran Vía, The Madrid EDITION is a five-star urban oasis and a showcase of the new generation of luxury.
Following our LEED Gold certification for design and construction, we continue to set new standards in responsible hospitality, ensuring that sustainable design principles remain integral to our daily operations.
This recognition highlights our commitment to sustainability, guest well-being and reducing environmental impact. Our initiatives include greywater recycling systems, smart room technologies that optimise energy efficiency and a rooftop designed to enhance biodiversity in the urban landscape. In 2025, we also invested in an expanded Building Management System to monitor water consumption in different areas of the hotel and also function as a leak detection system. New controls for chillers were also implemented to reduce the energy required to cool the building based on outdoor temperature.
The next step is the BREEAM In-Use Part 2 certification, further reinforcing our dedication to conscious and efficient management practices.
This achievement reflects the collective effort of the hotel management team, our sustainability team and in collaboration with PGI Engineering & Consulting and its Energy & Sustainability division. Together, we continue to champion a hospitality experience where sustainability is not the exception, but the foundation of modern luxury.
